About J. D. Cooper, an Author, Speaker, Poet, Self-Publisher, and Addictions Counselor, CADC., J.D. Cooper was born in East St. Louis, Illinois and has lived in Chicago, Illinois since she was three years old. She has Degrees and certifications in Liberal Arts, English, Computer Electronics and Addictions Studies from Harold Washington College, Malcolm X College and Governor State University.

 

J. is the mother of 2, daughter Kevah was “Miss Teen Mahogany 2004”and son Master Khiry is, “The Honor Roll student”. Along with the tasks of raising her children as a single mother J. found time to devote to the pursuit of writing. She now balances her life between working a full time job, writing, her family and Ministry.

 

J. D. Cooper, the Poet has traveled the poetry reading circuit since the year 2000 learning her craft and finding her voice. She commits herself to charity poetry readings for the Daddy’s Club and the Nina Foundation 501c3 organizations and local churches in the Chicago area.

J’s Poem “Raising A Man” was featured in True Poet Magazine.

 

J. D. Cooper, the performer was invited to portray one of the dream girls in a Motown Review held in Chicago. Her acting performance includes the poetic Angel in the gospel play, “Tha Message” by Cassandra Clark-Bell, which depicted church life with a hip-hop twist.

A Portrayal of Zora Neale Hurston, who was an American Folklorist and author during the time of the Harlem Renaissance, best known for the 1937 novel Their Eyes Were Watching God.

J. was featured on WKKC’s Poets Café, with Poet Just Lilly. She has also appeared on WYCA (102.3 FM) radio stations on several occasions. J’s Debut to cable was on the Probation Challenge cable show, Halla Back with Steven Mosley. She was also interviewed on "Straight Talk." hosted by W. L. Lillard. She was a Participant of the URBAN BOOK EXPO in Chicago - The Urban Book Expo, debuted on August 17, 2007 at the Illinois Institute of Technology's (IIT), where she wowed the crowd with Spoken Word.

J. opened up with Spoken Word for the 2008 Pre-Mother’s Day Concert & Steppers Set featuring The Original Blue Notes and The Intruders. She was featured as The University of Wisconsin’s 2008 Diversity Week speaker & at Northeastern University Black Students Union’s Poetry Slam 2009.
